The Blackhouse is a long thatched cottage that used to be shared by a family and their animals.

The house is still fully furnished so you can get a real sense of what life was like for the crofters who lived and worked here up until the 1960s. Peek into the bedrooms and get warm by the fire, which is never extinguished.

There is also a ruined blackhouse to see nearby, as well as the 1920s ‘white house’ that was built to replace it. White houses were designed to separate the living quarters and the byre, or cowshed.

There is also a shop and visitor centre with ramped access and an adapted toilet.
