Get Around for £2 this winter:

The UK Government has announced the £2 Fare Cap scheme which will run from 01 January 2023 to 31 March 2023 which will see single tickets on most bus routes across England cost no more than £2. This scheme is aimed at allowing millions of people to access affordable bus travel this winter as the part of the Government’s wider measures to support for households with cost of living pressures.

Over 130 operators, are taking part in the scheme backed by £60 million Government funding and offering a saving of 30% on the average national single fare of £2.80.

Planning your journey

The Traveline journey planner will show you if your route is eligible when the scheme goes live. Whether you are heading into town or looking to save on your commute – £2 single tickets will run from 01 January 2023!

Buses Minister Richard Holden said:

“Bus travel remains the most popular form of public transport in England, making up around half of all journeys. That’s why we’re investing £60 million to cap single bus fares at £2 to support every passenger and help get people back on the bus.

“With the scheme set to take two million car journeys off the road, it’s fantastic to see so many bus operators signing up to the fare cap, helping people to ‘Get Around for £2’ between the 1st January and 31st March.”

Graham Vidler, Chief Executive of the Confederation of Passenger Transport said:

“We look forward to welcoming more customers on board when the £2 fare cap in England starts in January, as it complements great value fares already in place that make taking the bus more attractive and environmentally friendly this winter.

“Travelling for £2 on the bus both helps customers facing rising cost challenges and try a new travel option to get to work, education, public services, leisure or see loved ones.
