Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

Find your stop

Enter either a postcode, a street and town (eg Broad Av Leicester), or a stop code if you know it.

Browse stop list

Use the map or the list to work out which bus stop you want. Make sure you choose the stop on the right side of the road for your journey. Click on the relevant stop from the results list. On most phones, you can also press the corresponding number on your phone keypad.

If you have searched by a street name and town, there may be many results. If you can't find the stop you wanted, or the results aren't where you expected, scroll down your screen to view other locations. If you still can't find your stop, refine your search eg by using a postcode.

Departure board

You will now get the times of the next buses leaving the stop. Live information is shown where available eg "in 6 min", otherwise the sheduled departure is shown as a time eg "08:31".

You can click on one of the route numbers to see more bus times on the same route.

The other options on the screen allow you to look at nearby stops or start a new search.

You can bookmark the departure board on most phones for 1-click use in future.

other questions

What does it cost?

This nextbuses.mobi service is free, apart from any normal data charges made by your mobile operator (contact your operator for details)

Small charges are made when you first download iPhone and Android apps. These are explained when you go to the app store.

other questions

Does this allow people to know where I am?

The system uses the location technology developed by the mobile operators. The only way we use the location function is to establish where your handset is in order to make the system more user friendly and more intelligent. Traveline will not use any data related to this for any other purpose.

other questions

Can I use bus stop codes?

Yes. Most bus stops codes that are needed for the SMS system and displayed at bus stops can be used in NextBuses.

other questions

Can I bookmark the system on my phone?

Yes in the same way you would bookmark any other webpage on your phone

other questions

How can I know if NextBuses will work on my phone?

The system is designed to work on all the most popular hand sets. If your phone can access the mobile internet, it can almost certainly access the NextBuses system. If your system does not support mobile internet then you may still be able to get NextBuses information using Traveline-TXT

other questions

Which phone operators currently have NextBuses on their portal?

Orange, T-mobile, 3. On other phones use www.mytraveline.mobi

other questions

It does not work on my phone

If you can't get mobile internet on your phone, you can check the next buses from a particular bus stop by sending the bus stop code in a txt to 84268. The bus stop code may be displayed on the bus stop flag or in the timetable case at the bus stop. (In Scotland txt the code to 0777 608 2 608 and in Yorkshire txt the code to 64422).

The txt message you send will cost your normal txt message charge. In some areas the reply will be free of charge. In most areas the reply will cost up to 25p.
